Warren Ward, Jr. Obituary

Warren Goodie Ward, Jr., age 82, passed away on February 15, 2025.  Warren was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Warren was born on March 6, 1942, in Wilmington, NC., but spent his formative years in Charlotte, NC., where he attended Myers Park High School.  He turned down an offer to play professional baseball to enlist in the United States Army.  Following his military service, Warren spent the majority of his working career in the printing industry until he retired from Heidelberg USA, as one of their top salesman.

Warren loved horses and was dedicated to keeping foundation quarter horse stallions for the American Quarter Horse breeding programs.  He also loved German Shepherd Dogs and was a softie for rescues evident by the way he doted over his little “Tater”, the last dog he enjoyed walks on the beach with.

Warren was a licensed boat captain and was always prepared to teach and demonstrate the finer points of angling.  He loved fishing, especially with his dad, and they caught fish when nobody else could.  Warren also enjoyed his tenure with the Sunset Beach Code Enforcement Department.  He took advantage of every opportunity to scout out those fishing holes as he rode up and down the beach each day.

Warren was an active member of his community and was instrumental in the planning, development, and construction of his neighborhood pool complex.  He was also responsible for helping plant a church in the same community.  Warren loved where he lived, and cared for the people around him.  But more than anything, Warren was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He looked forward to spending time with all of his family, especially sharing stories.  He was always available to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.

Warren is survived his his loving wife: Betty; daughter: Terri Gomm and husband, Charles; son: Ken Ward; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brothers: David Ward and Mark Ward; and sister: Ann Bullard.

Warren was preceded in death by his mother and father: Warren and Joyce Ward; and two sons: Andy Ward and Rodney Ward.

His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him.  A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held for the family and close friends on March 6, 2025 at Sunset Beach.
