Susan Christina Root Jordan
January 18, 1958 - June 15, 2024

Susan Christina Root Jordan passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the age of 66 years old. She was a loving grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Susan is survived by her son, Matt Jordan; daughter-in-law, Shelly; and grandchildren, Austin Patrick, Ryker Michael, and grandbaby number three (arriving early 2025), as well as by her brothers, Steven and Jonathan; sisters-in-law, Laura and Kammie; and nieces and nephew, Natalie, Sebastian, and Mackenzie.

Susan was born in Manhattan, KS to Judith I. Wiggins Root and Roger A. Root, a U.S. Army Officer and 1956 Graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point.

Susan started as a traveler and spent a good portion of her life visiting and seeing incredible places. At only a few months old, she traveled on a cruise ship to Vicenza, Italy, and lived there for over two years. Susan and her family then returned to the US, this time to California, where Susan’s early years were spent in Southern California and many nearby locations.

Susan and her family then moved to New York, where her middle years were spent upstate of NYC with camps, travel to Cape Cod in the summers, and good family and friends nearby. She was raised in Catholic schools in California and New York. Susan taught herself guitar and sang in the school spiritual music group and on Sundays at church.

Susan attended Marymount College first in Arlington, VA, and then Tarrytown, NY. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Susan was married in 1979 to Richard A. Jordan at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel in West Point, NY. Their son, Matthew Ryan Jordan, was raised in North Carolina, where his pre-high school years were spent. Susan very much enjoyed the Raleigh area where she was an active member of the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi, the Junior League of Raleigh, as well as participated in various parent associations of St. Timothy’s, Ravenscroft and Leesville Road schools.  Susan and her family then moved to Paris, France for a number of years, traveled often across many countries, and was certainly one of Susan’s fondest and most cherished experiences of her life. She often reflected on the remarkable expatriate community and held a very special place in her heart for those friendships.

Susan and her family then relocated back to North Carolina, where she spent many years with friends and family in the area. She ultimately established a community of loving and dear friends in Myrtle Beach, SC and spoke fondly of the amazing community at Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church.

Her greatest desire was to become a mother, which nearly took her life. This desire was truly fulfilled in 2019 when she became a grandmother. Her love, generosity, selflessness and ability to plan the most spectacular Disney vacations, cruises, weddings and events will forever be remembered by her friends and family.
