Sonya Carey

Sonya Carey passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 28, 2026 at her residence.  Born on March 25, 1956, in Johnson City, TN.  Sonya was the daughter of the late Elnora Ruth Cox and Walter Carpenter (step father).

Sonya is survived by her son: Al Cloyd and his wife Kristen Thompson Cloyd and very special adopted son: John Formyduval; special step sisters, nieces and nephews. 

Sonya moved to the North Myrtle Beach area following her High School graduation, making it her home for the last 49+ years.   She enjoyed the treasure of her special friendships, surfing, beach life and selling turquoise jewelry.   Sonya made her career working as a district manager in the convenience store industry. 

There will be a private service held at a later date
