Robert Charlton Hildebrant

Robert Charlton Hildebrant, lovingly known as Bob, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at MUSC in Charleston, SC. He was 81 years old.

Born on May 11, 1944, in Flemington, New Jersey, Bob was the cherished son of the late Walter Hildebrant and Beatrice Smith Hildebrant. He grew into a man whose life was defined by hard work, honesty, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those around him.

Bob graduated from Bordentown Military Institute before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. He carried the discipline and values learned there throughout his life, always meeting every responsibility with humility and determination.

A true automobile enthusiast from an early age, Bob inherited a love for cars from his father, who owned a repair garage and sold used cars. Bob continued that passion throughout much of his life, building and selling cars, it was one of the great pleasures of his life.

Bob was also known for his incredible work ethic. He spent many years delivering snacks for Herr’s and Frito-Lay, later serving as a district manager for Frito-Lay. Alongside his beloved wife, he also owned and operated two video stores for many years, building both a livelihood and cherished friendships through their business.

Above all else, Bob was a family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rusann Hildebrant, who passed in 2008, and his dear son, Bryan K. Hildebrant, who passed in 2023.

He leaves behind his loving son, Scott R. Hildebrant and his wife Michelle, as well as the grandchildren who knew him lovingly as PopPop; Jacob, Kyle, and Collin. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren; Colson, Kylie, Winnie, McKenna, Hudson, and Kaiden, all of Pennsylvania, who all brought him so much pride and joy.

In retirement, Bob made his home in Garden City, SC where he enjoyed his final years surrounded by wonderful friends who loved him dearly. Their friendship and companionship meant so much to him, and he treasured the life he built there.

Bob will be remembered as a hardworking man with a generous heart, a modest spirit, and a character as honest as they come. He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him, and his absence will be felt profoundly.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Pennsylvania in the near future.
