Reta June Johnson
August 02, 1951 - November 13, 2025
On November 13, 2025, shortly before dusk, Reta June Johnson, our angel, received her wings and soared into life and love eternal.
Reta grew up in Whiteville, NC, raised in a loving, warm household with parents Oakley Homer and Evelyn Watts. She was the sixth child born to the pair. With 5 older brothers and sisters, she grew up with a great personality, loving to dance and laugh. She was a small-town girl who met the love of her life, George, in her teens while hanging out with friends. The two would grow closer through their occasional meetings at the “tracks”.
After graduation, the two would marry and Reta would flourish in the banking industry. But her love for family would put a quick end to her career, as she decided her most important job was as a mother. She would become a full-time homekeeper and raise her two children. And as time moved forward, Reta spent her life taking care of everyone around her. She was a natural when it came to life and relationship.
Reta was a caring mother to her two children, Tara and Leo, a devoted wife and partner to George, an incredible grandmother to Caidence, a grateful sister to Alice, David “Thurston”, Edward, Doris and Brenda, and an amazing friend to nearly everyone she met.
Reta, will be remembered by most for her unwavering faith and Christian values, as well as her kindness, clever sense of humor and brilliant laugh. But to those closest to her, she will be remembered as brave beyond belief and loyal to no end. With the same courage and wisdom she raised her children with, Reta could have done anything or been anyone she wanted to, and she lived a life doing just that. She taught us how to be ourselves and to live for love and family rather than wealth and fame, and for that, her memory will live on in us all.
Following a small intimate gathering for immediate family, we will be honoring her life on earth and celebrating her ever-lasting life with our father in heaven on the December 05, 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Socastee Masonic Lodge #421, located at 7650 Butler Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588. All family and friends are invited to attend and spread the good memories they experienced with Reta.
You taught our family love so deep it held us every day,
A gentle kind of goodness that never drifts away.
Even now without you, when the world feels dark or wrong,
Your voice still guides our footsteps, steady, soft, and strong.
You turned life’s hardest moments into lessons we could bear,
Showing every painful season held a hidden gift somewhere.
Though you’re gone, your light remains in everything we do,
Still teaching us to find the good—because that’s the gift we got from you.
