Peter Pulkkinen Obituary

On September 14, 2024, Peter ("Pete') Robert Pulkkinen, left this world after a very full life of 95 years, when he was involved in an auto accident near his home.

Pete was one of 13 children, 7 girls and 6 boys, all who have passed away. His parents, Matti and Mari (Heikkinen) Pulkkinen immigrated to America from Kuhmo, Finland in 1907 and 1909 respectively. They married and settled in West Paris, Maine where they started their family.

Twenty years later, in Turner, ME, a son, Peter Robert Pulkkinen was born on June 14, 1929, the 12th child in the family. He grew and helped support the family working on their small farm, logging, working in the local paper mill and picking apples for the Leavitt's farm. he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 as a Staff Sergeant E5, serving for the next 20 years.

While stationed in England, he met and married his lovely wife, Margaret (Rowell) of Littleport, England. They were married for 53 years before her death in 2016.

Following his military service, he worked for 19 years for a major car dealership in Langhorn, PA before moving to South Carolina in 1988. "Pete" enjoyed "telling lies" with his band of brother- Joe, Victor, John, Jim and his other good friends almost every morning at the local McDonald's over coffee... and the manager Jose, was always a gracious host. He loved to take walks, read biographies and history books, take trips to visit friends in Florida, and enjoyed driving through the Kentucky countryside. His favorite weekly outing was a meal at the Golden Corral.

He is survived by is sister-in-law Alma Wayman of Ely, England, special nephews and nieces in Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and Virginia. He had a childhood friend, Malcolm "Mac" Morris who he respected and remained friends with throughout their lives.

A quiet man of integrity, Pete is loved by many and will be greatly missed.

We want to say a special thank you to the wonderful home health care team that helped him recently with his fractured ankle recovery. They were wonderful to work with.
