Larry Dale Johnson
October 8, 1945 – April 6, 2025
With hearts full of love and laughter, we say goodbye to Larry Dale Johnson, of Myrtle Beach, who passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 79. A man of endless charm and quick wit he left his mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Larry had the kind of magnetic personality you couldn’t forget. We always said they broke the mold when they made Larry.
Larry was a graduate of East Carolina University and proud Pirate (right down to his socks)! He had a successful and impactful career in Sales with Brown Morrison, J.P. Bell, and Progress Printing, repeatedly receiving the designation of “Salesman of the Year”. Driven, curious, and meticulous—he loved what he did.
Though mesothelioma took a toll, his diagnosis brought unexpected blessings. We were reminded to be creative and adapt to new challenges. Thank heavens for “Alexa, turn bedroom light on.” and “Siri, turn on Do Not Disturb.”
We met new people and experienced unconditional love. Tonda, you reminded him it’s all according to God’s plan. Heather, you made him laugh even on his darkest day. Ed, you were his friend. Joyce, you were his forgiveness, his love, his future. We were brought together as a family, while we grew as individuals, and for that, we have no regrets.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Johnson, Michael Johnson (Sandy) and Melissa Ray (Kendall); his grandchildren, Katelyn Bays (Landon), Megan Ray, Ryan Johnson, and Connor Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Josie Bays and Dorothy Bays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dillard and Dorothy Johnson and his brother, Woody Johnson.
In his final moments on Earth, with a full heart and a peaceful spirit, he called loved ones to express his gratitude for the life he lived and the love he received. And with each call, he ended with the same simple, powerful words: "I’ll see you on the other side."
'Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand'. Isaiah 41:10
With hands held, tear-stained cheeks, and love surrounding him, he took his next breath in heaven.
