Kenneth Maston, Jr.

Kenneth “Ken” Maston, Jr. passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC.  

Born January 26, 1950 in Reynoldsville, West Virginia to the late Kenneth Jennings Maston and Margaret Cozad Maston. Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Maston, son, Ray Maston, daughter-in-law, Ginger Maston of Myrtle Beach, SC and daughter, Mary Tate also of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren Taylor Maston, Rachel Maston and Cutter Tate, niece Sarah Weaver (Robert, Bryson and Corbin), nephew Mike Norkett (Reianna) and sister Debra Maston of Charlotte, NC.  

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eleanor Sue Maston Collins, Lucetta Mae Maston and Neva Norkett, brothers Ronald “Gene” Maston, Jimmy, Tom and Gordon Maston. 

Ken's journey is a testament to resilience and passion. Growing up in Charlotte after moving from West Virginia, he found his calling in the automotive industry as a mechanic, where his natural talent for understanding cars set him apart. His relationship with Mary blossomed during these formative years, adding joy to his life before he faced the challenges of being drafted into the Vietnam War.

After serving at Fort Dix, Ken returned home with a renewed sense of purpose. He opened his own auto repair shop in Charlotte, where he not only honed his skills but also built a community around his love for cars. His enthusiasm extended beyond the garage; he thrived in dirt track racing, reveled in the thrill of motorcycle rides, and even took to the skies as a training pilot, all while maintaining a fondness for boats despite not being a swimmer.

As Ken transitioned from running his shop to sales and finance within larger automotive groups, he discovered a knack for connecting with people. His career flourished, and he took pride in providing for his family, which he built with Mary. Together, they welcomed two children into the world, cherishing every moment of family life.

After a fulfilling career, Ken embraced retirement, savoring the simple pleasures of life and the joy of spending time with his loved ones. His story reflects a life rich with experiences, love, and the relentless pursuit of passions that brought him happiness.

A small service will be held at Myrtle Beach Funeral Home Saturday, March 8th, 2025 at 2pm with a small gathering held at a private home afterwards.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 5445 77 Center Drive, Suite 60, Charlotte, NC 28217.
