Kathleen P. Staples (Katie) 65, born May 10, 1959, passed away on April 4, 2025.
Katie was born in Springfield MA. To parents Gerald and Patricia Mogilka, now deceased, she was proceeded in death by her oldest brother Gerald Mogilka, Jr.
Katie is survived by her significant other Gregory Seibert of Murrells Inlet, her son Carlton Staples of Myrtle Beach, SC and daughter-in-law Taryn Phillips of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by her siblings; Fred Mogilka, Sr., Carl-Ray Mogilka, Sr. (Rose), John Mogilka, Sr. (Denise), Carol Ann Dyl (Paul) of Warwick, RI. Her two grandsons Brady Staples and Hudson Phillips, and several nieces and nephews that were also children to her; Patrick, Jessica, Lisa, Rachel, Carl, Jr., Fred, Jr., John, Jr., Ashley, Paul D, Jocelyn, Rose-Marie, Paul, Kyle and Caitlin. Along, with 24 great-nieces and nephews, who she also adored.
In life, Katie held nothing back even while going through health issues, she could not be stopped from following her passion. She loved to travel and she loved her music. She had most recently traveled with her sister Rose to Boston to see the Rolling Stones, to California to see Pearl Jam (her and her son Carlton’s favorite band) also, to New York City with her son Carlton to see Temple of the Dog. Katie was also known as “The Queen” of the Carolina Country Music Festival, which she attended faithfully every year with her best friend Jan.
Katie was always “The Rock” she never hesitated to help her friends or family in their time of need. Katie was always there for us. She had this “special gift” in that she always knew exactly what we needed her to be to get us through the hardship, whether it was a second mom, a voice of reason, a best friend, a partner in crime (lol), or even a guiding light. In life, Katie gave everyone in her world 100% of unconditional love. Now in her passing all of Katie’s friends and family members can look forward to having her as their Guardian Angel, to watch over and protect us all. She will never be forgotten by anyone who was blessed enough to have known her.
A Celebration of Life for Katie will be held on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, from 05:00pm to 9:00pm at RJ's Restaurant, located at The Caravelle Resort on 70th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. Family will gather to honor her memory with food, soft drinks, and live music by Billy Wright. Your presence would mean so much as we come together to give Katie the joyful celebration she would have wanted. Please feel free to share this invitation with others who knew and loved her. Additionally, an event for immediate family will be announced at a later date. The family hopes to see you there!
