Josefina "Josie" Boone

Josefina “Josie” Boone was born on July 15, 1974, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to Sara Matos and Jose Manuel Robles. At the age of five, Josie moved with her family including her older sister, Brenda Robles Cooke (Robert Cooke), and brother, Jose Manuel Robles (Sonia Robles) to Newark, New Jersey. She attended the Newark Public Schools and later pursued a nursing assistant program at Essex County Community College.

Josie was raised in a close-knit family, surrounded by the love and support of her aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. At just 15 years old, she met the love of her life, Erik Boone.  Their bond was undeniable, and together they built a beautiful life. They welcomed their first child, Darren Santiago “Dee” Boone, followed by their daughter, Jade Chanelle “Tuga” (Rachel Boone) Boone.

Determined to give their children a life beyond the city, Josie and Erik didn’t just dream, they acted. While Josie was nine months pregnant with their daughter Janaii Chasity “Mook” Boone, they packed up a U-Haul and made the move to Frederick, Maryland. Soon after settling in, they received a joyful surprise: the upcoming arrival of Jayla Chanise “CeCe” Boone, who would complete their family.

In Maryland, Josie and Erik found a loving church home where they were baptized and embraced by a new community. With faith, determination, and a deep love for their growing family, they launched “Operation: School and Buy a House.” Josie pursued her dream of becoming a registered nurse while Erik trained to become an electrician. Over the next four years, they juggled parenthood, education, work, and homeownership (Hagerstown, MD) making each dream a reality.

As an RN, Josie touched countless lives. Her kindness, strength, and faith made her a light to many. Her journey eventually led the family to settle in Conway, South Carolina, where she continued to serve the Lord and her community. Fierce, faithful, and occasionally a little bossy, Josie’s love for her family was undeniable. She served in various church ministries alongside Erik, always rooted in love and faith.

Her children were her pride and joy. She celebrated Darren’s entrepreneurial spirit, Jade’s completion of the fire academy, Janaii’s college graduation, , and Jayla’s success as a lab technician. The birth of her first grandchild, Luca Santiago Boone, brought her immeasurable joy. Josie was also proud of her nieces and nephews: Justin Robles, Samantha Robles, Sabrina Robles, Jacob Robles, Bobbi Cooke, and Brendan Cooke.

In 2020, Josie faced one of life’s greatest trials, the passing of her beloved Erik. With strength and faith, she and her family walked through grief together, one day at a time.

Now, Josie has joined Erik in heaven, entering the pearly gates with her trademark joy, shouting: “Woop, Woop!”

For now, we will continue to live your legacy, take care of each other, and carry your love forward in all that we do. Rest in Peace, Mom.
