Jeffrey Ullom Obituary

Early in the morning of September 18, 2025, Jeffrey Ray “Jeff” Ullom passed away at home in Murrells Inlet, SC, at the age of 72 after a brief battle with cancer, with his wife, Pat, at his side.

Jeff was born in Spencer, WV, on July 28, 1953. After earning a B.A. in Social Psychology from Park College in Missouri and serving 10 years in the United States Air Force, he went on to a distinguished career as an FAA air traffic controller, serving at airports in Dayton, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Chicago O’Hare.

Remembered by his wife as a man whose word was ‘as good as gold,’ Jeff lived a life of integrity and faith. From 2009 to 2024, he served faithfully at Christ Church, Murrells Inlet, holding roles including Senior Warden and Sexton. In 2025, Jeff and Pat began attending Church of the Ascension, a church-plant of Christ Church, where he was seeking new ways to get involved and support a new work of God.

In addition to his love of God and his family, Jeff loved aviation, holding a private license with an instrument rating. He was also an avid reader and, together with Pat, had completed several marathons together.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lillian Patricia “Pat” Ullom, brother Jonathan (and wife Nancy) in Evans, WV, his seven grandchildren—Noah (and wife Betsy) of Minneapolis, MN, and Jonah, Isaac, Hannah, Faith, Silas, Abigail of Bangor, PA—and one great-granddaughter, Violet, along with several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Ray Ullom, Jr., and his daughter, Holly Danielle Ullom-Martin.

A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Murrells Inlet (310 Prince Creek Pkwy, Murrells Inlet 29576) on November 1st at 2pm, to be followed by a reception at which personal remembrances will be welcomed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Ascension, 2300 Carolina Forest Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.
