James “Jim” Gray Hanna, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, following a brief illness. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Joan (Porier) and James Louis Hanna.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lavilla Jo Hanna (Edmonds); his brother, Earl G. Hanna (Gail Hanna, Lake Worth, FL); and his nephew, Edward Hanna.
He was a devoted father to Joanne Renee Hanna Irvin (Scott) of Ellington, CT; James E. Hanna (Leslie) of Perry, OH; and Aaron Michael Hanna (Diane) of Geneva, OH. He was a cherished grandfather to Rebecca Lee Walker of Myrtle Beach, SC; Ashley Michelle Hanna Cole of Eastlake, OH; and Aaron James Hanna of Geneva, OH. Known lovingly as “Papa Jim,” he was also a great-grandfather to Dominic Joseph Bonarrigo, Logan Renee Walker, Dennis G. Walker Jr., and Luca Zane Cole; and a proud great-great-grandfather to Aura Mae Walker. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jim enjoyed a successful career as a top salesman for Black and Decker before retiring and settling in Murrells Inlet with his wife. A passionate golfer, Jim achieved a lifelong dream with his first hole-in-one in 2021. And enjoyed his many golf buddies.
For over 50 years, Jim was a committed and compassionate member of Alcoholics Anonymous. His dedication to the program touched thousands of lives, offering hope and support to others—right up until the final month of his life.
Jim’s legacy is one of love, service, and strength. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
