James Rodney Ballew, 60, passed away peacefully at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC on February 19, 2026.
Born on August 16, 1965, in Burnsville, NC. James was the beloved son of Barbara Mains and the late Toby Mains. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him a strong sense of duty, honor, and compassion throughout his life.
James was a devoted son, father, brother, and friend. His greatest joys in life were his children, Morgan Ballew and Jessica Hodges. He was a proud father and found endless happiness in watching his children grow and thrive. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Graham Hodges, his loving mother, Barbara Mains, his sister, Maria Limon, his brother-in-law, Pelo Vaca, his uncles, Larry Gurley and Ken Page, and his aunts, Wanda Wall and Marsha Miller.
He was preceded in death by his father, Toby Mains, and his aunt, Aileen Page.
James was beloved by everyone he met. Known for his generous heart and gentle spirit, he loved helping others and never held a grudge, always choosing to turn the other cheek. His kindness and willingness to lend a hand left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
For many years, James dedicated his time as a volunteer with Help 4 Kids, beginning in 1989. Serving others was not just something he did- it was who he was.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 2:00pm at Myrtle Beach Funeral Home- 4505 US Highway 17 Bypass South Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Help 4 Kids in honor of James' lifelong commitment to helping children in need.
James will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering love, generous spirit, and the light he brought into the lives of so many.
