Irene Moody, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family into the hands of the Lord, on June 27, 2025.

A beautiful soul, Irene was born in Liverpool, England on November 22, 1933 to Julia Plotnicki Coombs and Samuel Metcalf Coombs.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Harold Whitfield Moody Jr. and her son-in-law, Michael Lee Shade. She was also predeceased by her beloved siblings, Douglas, Arthur, and Muriel of England, and Samuel, Sydney, and Norman of Australia. Irene is survived by her three daughters, Linda Shade, Dianne Foster (Steve), Elizabeth Moody (Steve), and one son David (Elizabeth). She also leaves behind two grandsons Michael Moody and Philip Foster (Cassie), two great granddaughters, Sophia and Bella Foster.

Irene is also survived by one sister Barbara Coombs Marshall of Liverpool, England, as well as three sister- in-laws, one brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews in England, Australia, and the United States.

As a devoted Air Force wife of 26 years, Irene traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, living in five different states and four countries. She warmly embraced the people and customs wherever she lived.

Throughout her life, Irene always upheld her values of family, service, and faith. She volunteered with both the Girl and Boy Scouts of America, and in several school libraries. She was a member of many military associations, and served in the various churches she attended. Irene was a prolific reader, and talented and creative seamstress. She loved to sew, knit and crochet. She had an unwavering love of her native England that included her admiration for the late Queen, the music of the Beatles, and cheering on the Liverpool Football Club. She was also very proud of her lineage to the Grant Clan of Scotland.

Irene had been a member of Trinity Church of Myrtle Beach since 1977. Throughout the many years she served on the Altar Guild and taught Sunday School and Children’s Church.

The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to the staff of Indigo at Carolina Forest and Ardent Hospice. Special appreciation is given to Anita, LaQuisha, Vanesa, and Jess.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Trinity Church of Myrtle Beach.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Church 3000 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway, SC at a later date.

Full of grace, and the most beautiful welcoming smile, Irene will be profoundly missed by those who knew and loved her.
