Helen Hall Obituary

Helen Stephens Hall passed away Monday January 5,2026,  surrounded by her family after an illness.
She was the daughter of the late Kirby Lawton and Ethel Willoughby Stephens. She was predeceased by her husband, Chuck, of 57 years, her brothers, Billy and Bryant Stephens,  sister in law, Betty Stephens and brother in law, Johnny Watts.
Surviving are her son, Steve (Tracey) Hall, daughters, Angela (Wayne) Calhoun, and Paula (Jon) Allen. Her grandchildren: Russ Calhoun, Meredith (Matt) Varnadore, Natalie (Seth) Rabon, Sam(Coker) Hall, Jackson High, Parker (Carissa) High, Joe(Holly) Hall, Jon Allen III (Lola), her great grandchildren: Trace Calhoun, Luke Varnadore, Lane Varnadore, Layton Suggs, Paylen Rabon, Chloe Rabon, Braylee Suggs, Dawson Rabon, Winnie Hall and Walt Hall.  Her sisters, Hilda(Joe) Jordan, Alvida Watts and sister in law, Helen Stephens. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and her wonderful  friends and neighbors.
Helen was a 1960 graduate of Conway High School. She worked at North Conway Baptist Day School, where she worked as the “chef” and later the director for over 30 years. She was known by the children as Mrs. Helen, Grandma Helen, Grandma Grandma, and Grandma Honey. Thousands of  children feasted on her sausage and rice, chicken-bog and spaghetti.
After retirement, she substituted in Pre K - 5th Grade classes in the Horry County School system. There she was able to watch many of her “children” grow and develop.   
Later, she volunteered at Conway Medical Center and Churches Assisting People(CAP).
Mama volunteered as our homeroom mother, Cub Scout Den Mother and could always be heard in the stands cheering us on at our ballgames. She lived a life of faith in Jesus Christ. Her life was a witness to her faith She held various positions in our church, most involving taking care of the children in the nursery or cooking for the youth on retreats.  Our neighborhood kids and friends were always welcome in our home. Mama always had food and snacks and there was always enough for anyone who wanted to stay for supper. 
We would like to thank the following for loving on our mama: caregivers Bonnie Skipper and Angie Dalton, Ethel Davis of Century II, Rivertown Pharmacy, CAP, and the Home Healthcare of Amedisys and Amedisys Hospice   

Funeral services will be held at Maple Baptist Church on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Churches Assisting People (CAP): 307 Wright Blvd Conway, S.C. 29526.
