George Anthony Fellner
July 9, 1935 to April 15, 2025
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of George Anthony Fellner, who died peacefully at home on April 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 89 years old, passing just three months shy of his 90th birthday. He is survived by his wife, Micki, his daughter, Katie, and many dear friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Matthew.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 9, 1935, George immigrated to America in 1948 with his parents and four brothers. His life was founded on strong Fellner family morals and shaped by resilience and a love of learning. A true citizen of the world, he spoke five languages fluently and lived in many countries, collecting wisdom, friendships, and stories along the way.
He attended Georgetown University and spent much of his career in the international paper industry. It was a profession that reflected his love of language and global connection.
An avid tennis player, George found both joy and friendship on the court, playing well into his late 80s. He also loved skiing, especially when it meant visiting family and friends. He gave his time generously, volunteering with community programs. He found peace in the kitchen, cooking and sharing meals with loved ones.
Known for his dry humor, George could deliver a perfect one-liner with a straight face and impeccable timing. That same playfulness was seen in the hours he spent with Winston, his daughter’s dog, playing ball and enjoying life’s small, meaningful moments.
In one of his final days, George watched Rory McIlroy win the Masters. It was an experience he shared with his daughter and a memory she will always hold close.
To know George was to love him. He shared deep and lasting relationships with his brothers, nephews, niece, and many lifelong family friends. They all affectionately called him Uncle George or Sorsi.
His strength, generosity, and wit live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. With his passing, we lose not just a beloved father, husband, and friend, but a voice into our past. He was a bridge to history. His memoirs and legacy will live on through all of us.
George will be remembered for the life he lived, the love he gave, and the thoughtful, delightfully dry-humored way he made the world a better place. He is deeply missed. We know that someday, we will get to see him again in heaven.
As he would have wanted, we will remember his written instructions, left thoughtfully on his computer: “Enjoy life. Goodbye, adios, auf Wiedersehen, viszlát.”
