Douglas John Seeber

February 18, 1943 – June 17, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) John Seeber on June 17, 2024.   Born February 18, 1943 to Irving and Marie (Nellie) Lambert Seeber in Mohawk, NY.   As a child he enjoyed spending time at Gordon Lake with his sister, Charlotte (Chi Chi).   Doug graduated from Mohawk High School in 1961, where he was an avid athlete, having played football, basketball and baseball all four years.  Doug then attended Cortland State College, where he continued to play baseball, graduating in 1965 with his math degree.   This led him to West Winfield, NY, where he raised his family and enjoyed his 33 year career as a math teacher at Mt Markham High School, including several years as Math Department Head.    Doug was very active in the school system, taking on advisory roles and serving as a coach for many sport teams throughout his career, including football, boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball and golf.   Doug’s children all share his love for sports, and most were fortunate enough to have him as their coach for at least one sport/season.      

His passions were animals (particularly his beloved dogs), sports (with a deep love of baseball and golf), and keeping track of all his grandchildren’s activities. Doug  was also a  very talented craftsman who was always working outside during his summer breaks, creating beautiful field stone fireplaces, installing new roofs, renovating rooms, and many other projects.   There are many fond (and humorous) stories of Doug’s summer projects, which were often completed with close friends and his sons.

In his retirement, Doug and his wife Colleen spent most of the year in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he enjoyed golf and being outside, and Colleen taught Science in the local school system.   He always looked forward to spending his summers at Cedar Lake in Clayville, NY, where he headed back to as soon as the weather hinted at being warm enough.   Doug was a very active member of the Cedar Lake Golf Club, dedicating his personal time to club projects, and serving as a Board Member for many years.  

Doug was predeceased by his second wife, Colleen Anne Seeber (Muldoon) and his sister, Charlotte (Chi Chi) Guido (Seeber).   He is survived by his first wife Janet Seeber (Lash), his son Craig (Myra) Seeber of Okmulgee, OK, his daughter Lynn (Stephen) Plante of Stoughton, MA, his son Mark Seeber of Myrtle Beach, SC, his son Scott (Jennifer) Seeber of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, and his son Michael (Christy) Seeber of Belford, NJ, and his grandchildren, Andrew Seeber, Erika Plante, Colin Plante, Adam Plante, Noah Seeber, Preslei Seeber and Kenadee Seeber.  He also leaves behind his best friend/brother-in-law, Robert (Charlotte) Guido, his nephew, Bob Guido, and his niece, Stephanie Zimmerman Guido.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Doug’s caregivers from Caregiver’s of South Carolina, the staff at Portside at Grande Dunes, the staff at Always Best Care, the staff at Agape Hospice and a very special thanks to Jewelee Kenner, who allowed Doug to remain in his home as long as possible, and who always had a way of making Doug smile.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Doug’s favorite place on earth, Cedar Lake, on August 24, 2024 from 2-6pm.   We welcome all friends, family, former students/co-workers to join us and share your favorite memories of your time with Doug.
