In Loving Memory of Donald R Smith
Donald Robert Smith passed peacefully surrounded by family in his home on January 06, 2025 at the age of 78.
Donald, affectionately known as Don or Papa, was born in Hamilton Canada on November 22, 1946. Don was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving our country in the United States Navy on the USS Goldsborough (DDG-20). Donald Smith, known to his fellow officers as Smitty, served the city of Detroit, Michigan for over 25 years; retiring as a police sergeant. Don lived a lifetime of service that he instilled in his children and he was immensely proud of his son Matt for his dedicated service to our country in the United States Marine Corp. and of his daughter Michialann for her service as a nurse. An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting and boating at his part time home in Glennie, Michigan. After retiring, Don and his loving companion Rachael moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Don lived life to the fullest, enjoying time riding his Harley Davidson and traveling with Rachael.
Don is survived by his partner of 24 years, Rachael, his daughter Michialann, his grandson Ryan Thomas, his son Matthew and his partner Julie, bonus daughters
Donnielle and Rochelle, and was Papa to his grandson Ott Robert. Donald is preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Virginia, and by his sister Nancy
McKay of Myrtle Beach. Don was loving, and compassionate to everyone in his life and will truly be missed.
