Dixie Jean Walton Thompson

Dixie was called to her heavenly home October 22, 2024 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina surrounded by family.

Dixie was born January 23, 1941 in Ashland County, Ohio. She attended Mansfield City Schools and transferred to Hillsdale Schools. She was a cheerleader and was very active in theatre. She loved going to Cleveland as a child to visit cousins and attend the theatre and movies.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 10 years, Roy Thompson, her parents Leonard and Mabel Walton, daughter Jennifer Elliott Gula, grandson Dillon Xavier Thompson.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Elliott (Michael Martino), Daughter Melissa Belflowers (Mervin Belflowers), and son Marcus Andrew Thompson (Jessica Thompson)  and grandson Zachary Hilts and granddaughter Trinity Campbell. As well as many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. 

Dixie lived life to the fullest. She loved traveling the world and meeting new people. She never met a stranger and was blessed to have spent many of those travels with amazing friends and family. She loved the beach and being in the sunshine. Many hours were spent sunbathing, swimming, and playing tennis. Dixie took lessons to fly an airplane in her 60's. She owned a Bed and Breakfast in Georgetown, SC and loved meeting the guest, many she has maintained friendships with.

While owning the Bed and Breakfast, she met the love of her life, R. Lewis Patton. Together they restored a sailboat, travelled the world and maybe her favorite thing to do was fish with Lew in the creek at DeBordieu. He passed away in 2003.

She could tell stories of all the people she met and places she had been. Her stories sounded fantastical, but were completely true. She would often say she felt like she has lived many lives in one.

Since returning to South Carolina, she loved living in her "villa" in Murrells Inlet. Her neighbors, Dave and Roberta Clark became her very best friends. She would speak with Robbie daily and looked forward to those phone calls. They became more like family than neighbors.

Her smile and ability to light up a room will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

No services are planned. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
