David "Big Mike" Michael Hansel

David Michael “Big Mike” Hansel, 69, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Mike was born July 18, 1955, to John Wesley and Sylvia Patricia Hansel in Arcadia, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Jo; his son, Jason, daughter, Bri Matthews (Dean), step-daughter, Amy Barnes; grandchildren Karson, Kamryn, Hunter, Holden, Mason, Ashton and Roman; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Taylor (Greg); sister, Gayle Griffin, brother, John and sister-in-law, Kristi Hartless (Josh). He is also survived by special friends Amanda Ariola, Dennis Plogger and Edward Spain; special niece, Skylar Forren, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his two loyal dogs, Louis and Winston. 

Mike never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. His smile was contagious and his laughter could fill a room. An avid Miami Dolphins fan, he enjoyed cruising with his family, rodeos, fishing, watching Westerns and Star-Trek, and smoking his cigarettes. He lived life to the fullest and was always ready for a good time.

A memorial service will be held privately at a later date.
