David Cohn III Obituary

David Jay Cohn, III, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024 in Myrtle Beach, SC on a golf course doing
what he loved, golfing at a golf tournament that he loved. His passing at 65 years old was sudden and
unexpected and came much too soon.

David was born in Miami, FL on January 17, 1959, but always considered the New Orleans area his
hometown after moving there with his family after his father accepted a position with Shell. He was the
son of David Jay Cohn, Jr and Peggy Ann (Jeter) Woodward who both predeceased him.

He graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in accounting after a prior career
managing several different restaurants around the country because he wanted to provide a stable home
for his only son, James.

He met his current wife, Frances Marie (Ekern) Hatton, at a New Orleans area CPA firm where he
worked as a Tax Accountant and they married on June 30, 2006 after having to relocate to The
Woodlands, TX after Hurricane Katrina and he became step father to Fran’s two daughters, Heather and
Heidi.

David always enjoyed golf and became a very avid golfer after he moved to The Woodlands and his wife,
Fran, also took up the sport. David was well known for being the loud man with even louder pants
because he almost always wore some wild patterned shorts or pants. David and Fran enjoyed many
years of adventures together and eventually bought a large Class A motorhome to allow them to spend
more time exploring after David eventually retired. He was able to explore Europe and much of the U.S.
during their travels. One recent spot that he loved was Chamonix, France when he attempted to hike
the Tour Mont Blanc alone in June 2023.

David and Frances had just recently moved to Ormond Beach, FL, to be closer to their daughter Heidi,
son-in-law Brendan, and first granddaughter Riley.

David is survived by his wife, Frances of Ormond Beach, FL, his son, James of New Orleans, LA; two step-
daughters, Heather of The Woodlands, TX, Heidi of Port Orange, FL; new granddaughter, Riley of Port
Orange; sister Nanette Spears of Lake Charles; and niece Heather Burgess along with numerous aunts,
uncles, and cousins.
