Annette Unho Walck: A Life Remembered

Annette Unho Walck, affectionately known as “MuMu” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully in the serenity of her North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina home at the age of 68. Annette was a loving, caring woman whose boundless spirit and selfless dedication laid the foundation for an enduring family legacy. She was surrounded at passing, by the love of her devoted husband, David, and cherished children, Douglas and Kelly Anne.

Born in South Korea, Annette immigrated to America in 1973 and settled in Linden, New Jersey, with her mother Wisu and sister Kristine. After graduating from Linden High School in 1977, she began her career in the banking industry. It was at the National State Bank Computer Center in 1978, where destiny connected her with her future husband, David.

Following their marriage in October 1980, the couple initially resided in Rahway, New Jersey, until 1983. They then established roots in Basking Ridge, raising their children, Douglas and Kelly Anne, who were the joy of their lives. Annette continued her career in the banking industry, ultimately completing her professional life at Columbia Savings Bank. Her tenure was marked by warmth and commitment, forging life-lasting relationships with co-workers.

Annette’s life was one of profound sacrifice and an unwavering dedication to her family. Her truly generous spirit always placed the needs of others above her own, frequently “giving to a fault”. She was a remarkably hard worker, often holding down multiple jobs to secure a better future for her family. This dedication was shown by her domestic growth: after arriving in America with a cooking repertoire that extended only to hotdogs, she quickly learned the art of cooking - her Thanksgiving and Christmas day meals were masterful.

Annette was a devoted fan of UCONN women's basketball, never missing a televised game. She and David would sit in their assigned living room seats, wearing UCONN Huskies t-shirts and sweatpants and only changing the seating arrangements if the girls needed a reversal of that game's outcome for good luck. Annette’s favorite players were “Stewie” and Paige, and she would proudly sport their uniform numbers on her t-shirts. Another favorite relaxation time was binge-watching Korean shows and movies, a shared ritual that often ended sweetly with she and David usually falling asleep on the couch.

Annette had a passion and enjoyment for home renovation shows. This, coupled with her knack for searching and finding great deals, directly led her and David to find their dream oceanfront home in North Myrtle Beach in 2022. It was here Annette developed a passion for pickleball, as well as taking long walks on the beach. Even as she faced a courageous fight against cancer, she never gave up, diligently ensuring her family was provided for until her final moments. Her passions and dedication built the strong foundation of love and sacrifice that defines her family today. Annette will be remembered as a warm, loving mother, wife, and friend to all who had the pleasure to meet her.

She is survived by her loving husband, David; her son Douglas, his wife Jenn, and their children Lilly and Bennett; her daughter Kelly Anne, her husband Mike, and their children Michael, Wyatt, and Kole. She also leaves behind her sister Kristine and family, her brother Young Ho and family, and the Wisniewski family.

Her memory is not a fleeting thought, but the indelible, loving strength woven into the fabric of our existence. Not a moment will go by where we are not thinking about you.
